Karen stayed with us for 9 nights and was certainly a pleasure to have around. Great to chat with, very organised, and super competitive, the perfect combination for orienteering competitions and hosteling. Each morning Karen would be up bright and early looking forward to the days challenge ahead, checking the maps and revising her skills. The Scottish 6 Days Orienteering event is a biennial event, first held in 1977, and taking place in a different area of Scotland each time. As the largest orienteering event in the UK, each 6-Days event typically attracts over 3500 competitors. The competition is designed to provide the highest quality orienteering over the week, and aims to appeal all ages and skill levels. Karen was certainly no novice and the passion she shows for the sport was passed on to the other guests and volunteers at the hostel, taking time to give advice to anyone that took interest. Its great to see skills like these are still very much alive, and prove that traditional navigation methods are still the most trusted, and taught properly the most reliable.
